UTV-Astro All-Asia JV to start 4 channels by April

MUMBAI, July 18 (Reuters) – GenX Entertainment Ltd., a joint venture between UTV Software Communications Ltd. and a unit of Malaysia’s Astro All-Asia Networks , will start four youth channels by April 2008, its top official said.

The first one would be launched in August and UTV Broadcasting Ltd., a UTV Software unit, would distribute the channels, Zarina Mehta, Chief Executive Officer of GenX, said on Wednesday.

GenX joins Sun TV Network Ltd. which runs children’s channel Chutti TV and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. , which plans to launch its own youth channel.

Indian pay TV revenue from advertising and subscription is expected to more than double to $10 billion by 2011, research firm Media Partners Asia said in a report.
